Yarn

NOTE: .As the fibre mill (Exotic Fiber Mill, AB) we used to work with has been sold, we will no longer be able to sell our current collection of combed tops and yarns once our stock runs out.
The good news is that we have a new partnership with another fibre mill (Custom Woolen Mill, AB) that will process our fleeces into beautiful rovings and yarns.

Our fibre mill in Alberta processes different weights of yarn with various blends that will delight you.
The wool comes from an Albertan farm of Charolais crossbred Dorset sheep and silk used is high quality Tussah.

All our yarn have been worsted spun (from combed top). This means they are
fine, smooth, strong, durable, dense with more sheen and drape. They are ideal for colourwork and have a great stitch definition to make your cables and textured stitches pop.

Fingering Weight Yarn: Fireweed
(75% kid mohair - 15% silk - 10% wool)

We named this yarn Fireweed (Yukon Provincial flower): this rustic wildflower is for us synonym of hope!
Do you know it's one of the first flowers to bloom after forest fires or clear cuts (as we sadly have too many in our area)?
It also attracts lots of pollinators (even hummingbirds) thanks to its colourful flowers and nectar! We also discovered that native peoples used this plant in many ways as for weaving, eating, healing. What a wonderful and resilient flower!

Thanks to its content and texture, your garments and accessories, while being warm, will have a silky and lustrous drape, and in the same time be so soft that you will love wearing them directly close to the skin. Fireweed is the perfect luxurious choice for your shawls, boleros, tops and even sweaters.

Technical details: 2 ply - 2 / 6.5 WC (Worsted Count) - 22 Wraps per Inch (WPI)
Skeins: approx. 355m (389 yd) per 100g

Fingering Weight Yarn: Prairie Crocus
(60% mohair - 20% nylon - 10% wool)

We named this yarn Prairie Crocus ( Manitoba Provincial Flower) : This tiny flower is one of the first to bloom in spring.
Surprisingly strong in spite of its delicate appearance, it presses up through frozen soil to give a bright promise of the warmth to come, bravely budding and blossoming in the midst of the last of winter's snow. This yarn is soft to the touch but with its blend of fibres will prove as hardy and strong as the Prairie Crocus!

This fantastic sock yarn is a blend of our young adult mohair with fine wool and nylon to add strength. This yarn has a slight halo and is likely to bloom a little after washing.
Prairie Crocus is ideal for making divinely warm and comfortable socks but will also work into lovely garments with lacy patterns.

Technical details: 2 ply - 2 / 6.5 WC (Worsted Count) - 22 Wraps per Inch (WPI)
Skeins: approx. 425m (465 yd) per 120g

DK Weight Yarn: Pauline
(60% mohair - 20% nylon - 20% wool)

This yarn was given the name Pauline in  commemoration of the  famous Native Canadian writer and poet, Pauline Johnson (also known as "Tekahionwake”). Her famous poem  "The song My Paddle Sings" is familiar to thousands of Canadian schoolchildren.  The Lost Lagoon in Stanley Park (Vancouver, BC) is named from her famous poem "The Lost Lagoon". To us adding a yarn named in honour of this icon of Canadian literature was an essential addition to our line of yarns named for famous women.

The fleeces of our Angora goats ( young adults) were blended with fine wool for added memory to help your garments keep their shape and with nylon to add strength. It is a lustrous and lovely yarn and is fabulous knitted into socks, hats, cowls, mitts/cuffs, scarves or extra soft warm throws.

Technical details: 3 ply - 3/4.5 (Worsted Count) - 15 Wraps per Inch (WPI)
